NON-COMPLIANCE REPORTING PROGRAM        

DigNet’s Non-Compliance Reporting Program enables citizens and DigNet members to alert us to any excavation work occurring without lines being marked. By law, excavators and contractors working in the five boroughs of New York City and Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island must contact DigNet by phone, 1-800-272-4480 or 811, or via ITIC at least two working days before beginning any mechanized digging or excavation work.

Once a non-compliance report is submitted, DigNet investigates the allegation. If the excavator is found in violation of state law, DigNet will send him or her a formal notice. One of DigNet’s liaisons will schedule a damage prevention presentation with the offending excavator as well. Any excavator who receives three or more violations will be reported to the Public Service Commission.
